7th Cambridge Octoberfest Beer List

This list is a hopefully accurate record of the beers that were served at the festival.

  • BlackBar Cambridge, Cambs est. 2011 Bert's Lager 5.2% A traditional style lager which is brewed with lager malt, hops and yeast. Conditioned in Cask.
  • Marzen 2013 6.8% Brewed in March and released for the Octoberfest at the end of September. Malty brown and with a little sweetness as its still fermenting in the cask. Unfined and lagered in the traditional way.
  • Porteur 4.0% This porter was brewed for the Maypole pub for their beer festival which runs along side the Cambridge Beer Festival every year. A malty session porter.
  • Crafty Beers The Carpenters Arms, Great Wilbraham est. 2012 Carpenter's Cask 4.2% A traditional best bitter, made from a blend of four malts, with a smooth malty taste, moderate bitter notes and plenty of East Kent Goldings hops on the nose.
  • Sauvignon Blonde 4.4% Sauvignon Blonde is an exciting, aromatic, golden ale. Brewed with Nelson Sauvin hops, from New Zealand, which create characteristics reminiscent of the Kiwis' most famous wine.
  • Fellows Cottenham, Cambs est. 2009 Crafty Fellow 4.0% A golden ale with light biscuity malt with plenty of fruity grapefruit and citrus.
  • Voltaire 4.5% An American red style ale with 6 different US hops. Dry hopped for extra bite.
  • Hopshackle Market Deeping, Lincs est. 2006 Fire Belly 7.0% Amber in colour, this is a Double Imperial IPA loaded with hop oils and resins with a malty background.
  • Simmarillo 3.8% A burnished gold coloured beer with an aroma of citrus and soft fruits. The taste is tangy fruit with blackberry, plum and pineapple.
  • Smoked Porter 5.2% A dark beer with deep red highlights and an aroma of malt, grain, fruit and smoke. The taste is malt, hops, chocolate and liquorice with a smoky background.
  • London Brewing Company London est. 2011 Highrise 3.9% A golden ale with lemon citrus notes and a touch of green grass on the finish. Two hops are used, both American: Cascade and Columbus.
  • London Fields London est. 2011 Harvest Ale 6.0% A pale full bodied beer blending the fresh taste of Bramling Cross hops with notes of lemon and black current on top of a sweet caramel and biscuit base.
  • Lord Conrad's Dry Drayton, Cambs est. 2010 Hedgerow Hop 3.7% A light amber beer with a kick of bitterness. Wild hops from around Swavesey provide a hoppy nose.
  • Stubble Burner 5.0% Strawy nose with a hoppy bite.

  • Marcus Aurelius 7.5% Imperial Roman Stout – an enormous, luscious and velvety stout. Bursting with dark, roasty flavour with an underlying vanilla richness.
  • Medusa 4.8% Strong mild. Cocoa, vanilla and fruitcake aromas are backed by a satisfying yet subtle bitterness. Very drinkable.
  • Moonshine Cambridge, Cambs est. 2004 Cambridge Best Bitter 4.1% Fruity notes give way to a lasting, biscuit malt finish in this pale copper, easy-drinking ale.
  • Hot Numbers Coffee Stout 5.5% Made with the cooperation of Hot Numbers Coffee of Cambridge. Dark roasted malts balance the coffee and hop flavours, lactose adds sweetness to the body.
  • Smoking Hot Blonde 4.6% Sensuously refreshing, with classic spice to the nose and impressive banana on the tongue. Subtle smoke complements the harmony of flavours in this naturally hazy wheat beer.
  • Muirhouse Ilkeston, Derbyshire est. 2009 Hat Trick IPA 5.2% IPA packed with hops starting with Maynka for bittering and then finished with a hat trick of American hops.
  • Redemption Tottenham, London est. 2010 Red Rye 4.0% Subtle red berry fruit flavours and a hint of warm spiciness.
  • Saffron Henham, Essex est. 2005 Chestnut Grove 4.8% Deep golden ale brewed with Amarillo hops and honey
  • Saffron Blonde 4.3% Light golden ale. Maris Otter barley and torrefied wheat, plus Fuggles and Goldings hops create a delicate balance of citrus and smooth malty flavours.
  • Silent Night 5.2% Ruby porter brewed with generous amounts of chocolate and crystal malt to give rich aromas of chocolate and coffee. TDeep golden ale brewed with Amarillo hops and honey.
  • Saltaire Shipley, West Yorks est. 2006 Hazelnut Coffee Porter 4.6% A smooth, dark red porter with German malts and hops. Additions of fresh ground coffee and roast hazelnut syrup give this speciality beer, depth and complexity.
  • Son of Sid Little Gransden, Cambs est. 2007 Black Cherry Bitter 6.3% Cherry notes on the nose lead to a full-bodied cherry flavour in which cherry dominate. Long, rich, slightly bitter aftertaste with cherry to the finish.
  • English Ale 3.9% English Ale was first brewed to celebrate the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Maris Otter malt gives English Ale a sweetness, reminiscent of the Duchess. English hops give a bitter taste, representing the Duke's opinion of the press.
  • Raspberry Wheat 5.5% The Raspberry Pi is the computing phenomenon of Cambridge and this wheat beer is the raspberry phenomenon of Cambridgeshire. The sourness of the wheat is balanced by the raspberries, leading to a refreshing beer.
  • Tring Tring, Herts est. 1992 Ridgeway Bitter 4.0% A beer with a pleasant mix of hop and malt flavours in the aroma and taste, leading to a dry, often flowery hop after taste.
  • Tydd Steam Tydd St. Giles, Cambs est. 2007 Barn Ale 3.9% A golden bitter that has good biscuity malt aroma and flavour, balanced by spicy hops. Long, dry, fairly astringent finish.
  • Camarillo Honey 4.1% Deep golden ale brewed with Amarillo hops and honey
  • Golden Kiwi 4.1% A pale golden refreshing best bitter. Hopped exclusively with Motueka, Nelson Sauvin and N.Z. Cascade.
  • Wentworth Wentworth, S. Yorks Kriek 5.2% A powerful blonde ale with a combination of maraschino cherries to create a real fruity beer.
  • XT Long Crendon, Buckinghamshire est. 2011 Lest We Forget 4.2% Brewed for the Royal British Legion and the Poppy Appeal. A red ale with English Admiral hops.
