42nd Cambridge Beer Festival Beer List

This list is a hopefully accurate record of the beers that were served at the festival.

  • 4T's Runcorn, Cheshire est. 2010 APA 4.0% American Pale Ale, hopped with Cascade, Centennial and Chinook to produce the 55 IBUs. You get spicy and citrus hints throughout with a hint of bitterness at the back end, leaving you with a citrus burst of flavour.
  • Stout 4.9% A mouth-watering English stout, very well balanced and smooth. A combination of specialist malt gives it the biscuit, chocolaty, burnt notes at the start, then as the mouthful goes down you get the English hops breaking through giving you a burst of flowery tones.
  • Adnams Southwold, Suffolk est. 1890 Coconut Cove Porter 7.0% Aged in oak barrels which were previously occupied by North Cove Vodka from the brewery's own distillery. Coconut and cocoa nibs create a rich, warm, nutty beer with chocolate and coffee flavours.
  • Fat Sprat 3.8% A pale amber summer beer with a lovely citrus, grapefruit aroma and some spicy notes. On the palate, the citrus character of the hops shines through, balanced with a light biscuit flavour and a crisp, dry finish.
  • Ghost Ship 4.5% This pale ale has a good assertive pithy bitterness and a malty backbone. It is brewed with a selection of malts — Pale Ale, Rye Crystal and Cara. Citra and a blend of other American hop varieties create some great citrus flavours.
  • Jester 4.8% A single hop golden beer brewed with Pale Ale Malt and hopped with a new British hop called Jester. The beer has aromas of grapefruit and tropical fruits partnered with a complex bitterness, subtle herbal notes.
  • Mosaic 4.1% Made with Mosaic hops, this pale blonde has bags of personality with bold mango, peach, lemon and pine flavours and a dry hoppy finish.
  • The Herbalist 4.8% A golden saison brewed with Pale ale, pilsner and pale rye malts and hopped with Mosaic, Citra, Centennial and four herbs (pineapple sage, pineapple weed, lemon thyme and lemon verbena) to create a fruity beer with aromas of lemon, mango and pineapple and a spicy saison dry finish.
  • Alechemy Livingston, West Lothian est. 2012 Bad Day At The Office 4.5% A light golden ale with a heavy hop bitterness and flavoured with a strong fruit and citrus aroma.
  • Ten Storey Malt Bomb 4.5% A modern take on a Scottish 80/- made with ten varieties of malt.
  • AleCraft St. Albans, Hertfordshire est. 2012 Sauvin So Good 4.0% Exclusively utilising the New Zealand hop Nelson Sauvin throughout. Massive citrus gooseberry nose and flavour that lingers through to the long bitter finish.
  • Anspach & Hobday London est. 2013 The Porter 6.7% This dark, roasted beer finishes very smooth with balancing waved of malt and bitterness. A tribute to London's past.
  • The Smoked Brown 6.0% A lightly smoked brown ale, fruity malty and smooth.
  • Arbor Ales Lawrence Hill, Bristol est. 2007 Motueka 3.8% A pale hoppy session beer brewed with Motueka hops. It has flavours and aromas of tropical fruit and sweet citrus with a delicate bitter finish.
  • Nitro Stout 4.2% Black stout with flavours of roasted malt, chocolate, and a bit of charcoal smoke.
  • B & T Shefford, Beds est. 1982 Black Dragon Mild 4.3% A strong dark mild with pronounced roast flavours, brewed using pearl pale malt, crystal malt, black malt, roast barley and wheat malt, and hopped with golding hops.
  • Dragonslayer 4.5% A straw coloured beer, dry, malty and lightly hopped. Brewed using pearl pale malt, wheat malt, Challenger hops and golding hops.
  • Bartrams Rougham, Suffolk est. 1999 Black Forest Porter 4.5% Lashings of cherry and chocolate. Suitable for vegans.
  • Comrade Bill Bartram's Egalitarian Anti-Imperialist Soviet Stout 6.9% A bold and tasty Russian stout with a mouthfilling, airy texture and a lot of enjoyable, peppery, bitter chocolate flavours. Suitable for vegans.
  • FolkEast Festival Ale 3.8% Crisp classic session bitter brewed for the FolkEast Festival in Suffolk. Suitable for vegans.
  • Perfectly Normal Beer 4.2% Quality production delivers a high impact combination of malt and hop flavours.
  • Bexar County Peterborough, Cambs est. 2012 Cacahuete 4.1% An easy drinking peanut butter brown session ale. *contains nuts* (Unfined and vegan friendly.)
  • El Último Adiós 7.7% An American styled barley wine. Big hop flavors with a long sweetish finish. (Unfined and vegan friendly.)
  • Hop Damn 6.5% Big, dark and hoppy. This beer was brewed using the Holy trinity of Mexican dried chillies and dry chillied with habaneros. This beer is not for the faint of heart. (Unfined and vegan friendly.)
  • Binghams Ruscombe, Berks est. 2010 Coffee Stout 5.0% Coffee complements the dark malts and strangely mellows the flavours to provide a smooth drinking stout which smells as good as it tastes.
  • Doodle Stout 5.0% A dark stout with a delicious blend of dark malts to provide a complexity in character which draws you in for another sip. Named after the brewery dog called Stout that happens to be a labradoodle.
  • Ginger Doodle Stout 5.0% This stout is infused with root ginger to produce a stout with a refreshing zing.
  • Hot Dog Chilli Stout 5.0% Stout with a warming chilli afterglow. Just enough chilli to produce a pleasant aftertaste, without having so much that it will have you dashing for some water.
  • Vanilla Stout 5.0% This stout is infused with vanilla pods which complement the dark malts to create a smooth drinking, deliciously dark stout.
  • BlackBar Harston, Cambs est. 2011 Bitter 3.6% Malty, tawny brown bitter with a noble hop finish.
  • Black Economy 4.6% A black ale – not a stout or a porter. For drinking when a blonde just doesn't cut it.
  • Blacklight 4.0% A blonde beer for the spring, rich evening sun gold in colour with Cascade hops on the nose, Progress on the bitterness and a touch of Pioneer in the middle. A great transatlantic hop mix for the spring.
  • Theory 214 4.5% Oat pale (no further details supplied).
  • Boggart Newton Heath, Manchester est. 2000 Dark Mild 4.0% Classic dark mild.
  • Ginger 4.4% A straw coloured ginger beer.
  • Brampton Chesterfield, Derbyshire est. 2007 Brampton Mild 4.9% Dark, roasted and jam packed full of flavour. Coffee, toffee and caramel tones tease your taste buds and warm your cockles.
  • Golden Bud 3.8% A well balanced light, golden, hoppy bitter. Grapefruit nose and citrus flavours give way to a mellow, slightly sweet after-taste. Complex malt character ensures it drinks well beyond its ABV.
  • Brentwood Brentwood, Essex est. 2006 BBC 2 2.5% A true session pale ale; a full body and malty flavours make this beer very deceptive. American hops give it a tropical fruit and citrus punch.
  • Hix's Darkside 7.0% Originally brewed for export to Discworld, this rich, dark oatmeal stout has since been aged for 2 years. Chocolate, treacle and dark fruit feature in both the aroma and flavour. Hop bitterness comes through more in the finish.
  • Marvellous Maple Mild 3.7% A dark brown mild with a hint of maple syrup.
  • Bristol Beer Factory Bristol est. 2003 Milk Stout 4.5% Dark creamy stout, reviving an old Bristol tradition. Black in colour with a creamy mouthfeel.
  • Nova 3.8% A light malt base: Maris Otter, Carapils and wheat malt allows the bright, fresh and zesty hop aromas to shine, underpinned by herbal and floral notes.
  • Buntingford Royston, Herts est. 2001 Full Tilt 4.1% A pleasant hop character overlies a sweet malty character. Brewed with Maris Otter Pale, Cara, Wheat & Chocolate malts, along with hops from Germany (Brewer's Gold) and the USA (Chinook & Centennial).
  • Polar Star 4.4% A truly pale blonde in colour, this beer is heavily hopped to give a really refreshing citrus-hop kick. Pineapple, Peach & Grapefruit hop flavours abound.
  • Burscough Burscough, Lancashire est. 2010 Flat Rib Mild 3.6% A classic mild, dark and satisfying. Produced with crystal, mild ale and black malts.
  • Priory Gold 3.8% A golden session ale with a light body and moderate bitterness. The initial sweet, hoppy finish gives way to a fragrant citrus aroma with hints of pine and lemon.
  • Calverley's Cambridge, Cambs est. 2014 5 Hops Bitter 3.9% Classic English bitter with a modern twist, dry hopped for a delicate citrus finish.
  • Best Bitter 4.8% A smooth amber ale, with a good balance of malt and subtle bittering hops.
  • Citra and Simcoe Pale Ale 4.5% Pale ale with a citric hop character with grapefruit hints and a slight biscuity background.
  • Cambridge Brewing Company Cambridge, Cambs est. 2013 Chocolate & Banana Stout 4.5% Dark with some banana in the aroma. Chocolate dominates the initial flavour. Banana re-appears towards the finish.
  • Honey Bee-R 5.0% Golden ale made with honey. The honey has fully fermented, giving a dryer result than some honeyed beers. East Kent Goldings provide hop flavour and aroma.
  • Colchester Wakes Colne, Essex est. 2011 Colchester No. 1 4.1% A classic English best bitter, copper in colour. Whole leaf Boadicea hops for flavour and the definitive aroma of East Kent Goldings.
  • Crafty Beers Great Wilbraham, Cambs est. 2012 Sauvignon Blonde 4.4% Aromatic golden ale brewed with Nelson Sauvin hops from New Zealand, which create characteristics reminiscent of the Kiwis' most famous wine.
  • Wilbraham 4.3% Amber ale with rich malt flavours and good balancing bitterness. Subtle hop aroma with the characteristic earthy notes of Fuggles.
  • Cwrw Iâl Mold, Clwyd est. 2014 Kia Kaha! 4.3% Hop bomb, made with pale malt and a touch of wheat to give it a creamy head, then hopped using New Zealand’s finest to give a tropical fruit and lime peel aroma.
  • Limestone Cowboy 4.5% A robust dark copper ale using roasted malts, big tasting American hops and West Coast yeast for a hop forward style ale.
  • Pothole Porter 5.1% Porter in its true classic style black and roasted, bursting with British Golding Hops.
  • Dark Star Partridge Green, West Sussex est. 1994 Espresso Stout 4.2% A black beer brewed with roasted barley malt and challenger hops, with a rich and complementary coffee aroma from freshly ground espresso beans.
  • Hophead 3.8% An extremely clean-drinking pale golden ale with a strong floral aroma and elderflower notes from the Cascade hops.
  • Revelation 5.7% Amber in colour. Bitter hoppy citrus fruits throughout, balanced by sweet malts.
  • East London London est. 2011 Cowcatcher 4.8% American Pale Ale, generously hopped with Amarillo, Chinook, Simcoe and Citra
  • Orchid 3.6% A mahogany-coloured, slightly sweet a dark mild, lightly spiced with vanilla.
  • Elgood's Wisbech, Cambs est. 1795 Black Dog 3.6% Dryish, complex dark mild. Caramel binds a good cross-section of malt, roast and dark berry fruit flavours and there is a hint of sweetness.
  • Coolship 6.7% Spontaneously fermented using wild yeasts in the brewery's traditional open cooling trays (the coolships) followed by ageing in oak barrels. Oak and fruit on the initial aroma precede a flavour of sharp apples and berries. Tannin from the oak underscores the finish as more fruit characters are revealed.
  • Golden Newt 4.1% A beer with prominent hop character; a blend of Fuggles, Goldings and Cascade has been used in the recipe to bring the delicate hop flavour and aroma to the fore. The use of Cascade gives a pleasing citrus aroma.
  • Elmtree Snetterton, Norfolk est. 2007 Mad Maudie 4.5% Straw coloured with a pleasant citrus palette and an unusual hop combination. Perfect for the long days of summer.
  • Nightlight Mild 5.7% An old style mild, strong but carefully hopped to allow the malts to flourish. Liquorice hints balance the lasting nutty finish.
  • Enville Stourbridge, W. Mids est. 1993 Cherry Blonde 4.2% A light blonde bitter delicately infused with essence of cherry to produce a Belgian style fruit flavoured beer.
  • Czechmate Saaz 4.2% Brewed using the single variety Saaz hop this is a light and fruity beer with a dryness which confirms it as a classic Czechoslovakian-style beer.
  • Nailmaker Mild 4.0% A well-defined hop aroma and underlying sweetness give way to a dry finish.
  • Fellows Cottenham, Cambs est. 2009 Old Fellow Brown Ale 7.8% Decadent brown ale. Rich malt flavours provide a backdrop for US hops.
  • Old Fellow IPA 7.2% Amber in colour. Floral with big hop character, with enough sweetness to balance the bitterness.
  • Five Points London est. 2013 Hook Island Red 6.0% A full bodied, aromatic red rye ale brewed with malted barley, 20% rye, and Chinook, Columbus and Simcoe hops.
  • Railway Porter 4.8% A Porter in the classic London style with our own twist. Aromas of chocolate and coffee with hints of caramel, brewed with British East Kent Goldings hops.
  • Goacher's Maidstone, Kent est. 1983 Real Mild 3.4% A full-flavoured dark mild brewed with chocolate and black malts and hopped with Kent Fuggles.
  • Golden Triangle Norwich, Norfolk est. 2012 Hop Lobster 5.5% Brewed with East Anglian pale malt and five American hops to give a strong pale beer with big explosive hop notes.
  • Mosaic City 3.8% Light and refreshing with the distinctive hop note of Mosaic.
  • Grain Alburgh, Norfolk est. 2006 Blackwood Stout 5.0% Based on a 1790 Whitbread recipe. Black in colour with roast dominating from the aroma to the long lingering ending. A bittersweet chocolate note adds depth.
  • Blonde Ash 4.0% Wheat beer with a lemon, clove, and banana nose. Sweet fruity flavour supported by a hoppy bitterness. Caramel appears in a strong finish.
  • Oak 3.8% This well balanced session beer uses Maris Otter pale ale malt to give a light amber colour, and fermented slowly to give a dry, moreish finish.
  • Green Jack Lowestoft, Suffolk est. 2003 Orange Wheat 4.2% A light wheat beer with grainy citrus & marmalade flavours. Now brewed with Citra Hops!
  • Trawlerboys 4.6% Full-bodied, copper-coloured premium bitter brewed with English whole cone hops. Rich and malty with fruity hop flavours.
  • Gyle 59 Thorncombe, Dorset est. 2013 Toujours 4.0% This is a Saison. It has its roots in a long tradition of Belgian farmhouse ales. The mixture of Pale and Vienna malts combine with three different English and German hops to perfectly complement the earthy, peppery and spicy yeast flavours. Unfined.
  • Hammerton London est. 2014 N1 4.1% A session pale ale with a variety of fruity and aromatic hops from around the globe. The malt and hop combination creates an interesting flavourful thirst-quenching beer.
  • Pentonville 5.3% Stout brewed with used a variety of flavoursome malts, including a good dose of oats. Fresh wild Maldon oysters are then added to the boil to add a subtle extra complexity to the taste.
  • Hardknott Millom, Cumbria est. 2005 Code Black 5.6% Toasty, citrussy, bitter, hints of chocolate.
  • Harveys Lewes, Sussex est. 1790 Prince of Denmark 7.5% A strong, dark beer of great complexity and depth.
  • Sussex Best Bitter 4.0% Full-bodied brown bitter. A hoppy aroma leads to a good malt and hop balance, and a dry aftertaste.
  • Harviestoun Alva, Clacks est. 1984 Bitter & Twisted 3.8% Refreshingly hoppy beer with fruit throughout. A bittersweet taste with a long bitter finish. A golden session beer.
  • Schiehallion 4.8% Wheat and lager malts combine to give a crisp palate with more body than some. The hops give a lingering, fresh grapefruity finish.
  • Holden's Dudley, W. Mids est. 1915 Black Country Mild 3.7% A good, red/brown mild; a refreshing, light blend of roast malt, hops and fruit, dominated by malt throughout.
  • Hop Back Downton, Wilts est. 1987 Crop Circle 4.2% The subtle blend of aroma and bittering hops give a crispness on the tongue which is delicately fruity, giving way to some dryness. Brewed gluten free.
  • Taiphoon 4.2% A pale gold beer with hints of lemongrass and coriander.
  • Hop Stuff London est. 2013 APA 3.8% A low ABV, high flavour beer made from a selection of citrus & tropical fruit flavoured hops.
  • Renegade IPA 5.6% Made with the finest Maris Otter malt, blended with Citra, Cascade & a little "Summit" else on the hop front. Bold and hoppy, with rich caramel flavours.
  • Hopshackle Market Deeping, Lincs est. 2006 Double Momentum 7.0% Based on the recipe for the very popular Momentum IPA but with twice the amount of hops added. It is a golden beer with an aroma of vinous fruit with a hoppy edge. It has a coarse white head and an intense taste of malt, fruit and alcohol with a bitter finish. This beer is conditioned for at least one month before release to allow the complex flavours to develop.
  • Sumo 5.2% A golden amber beer with an aroma and flavour packed with hop resins balanced by a malty background.
  • Humpty Dumpty Reedham, Norfolk est. 1998 Broadland Sunrise 4.2% Red-orange in colour and brewed with additions of crystal malt and rye, giving it a complex malty flavour and a refreshing dry finish.
  • Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster 4.6% The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy says the effect of drinking a Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster is like having your brains smashed out by a slice of lemon wrapped around a large gold brick. This beer is almost, but not quite, entirely unlike that. Your brains will not be smashed out, but it is a golden beer and it has got lemon in.
  • Jo C's Fakenham, Norfolk est. 2010 Norfolk Kiwi 3.8% An easy drinking, lightly hopped straw coloured beer. A blend of English and New Zealand hops.
  • KCB King's Cliffe, Northants est. 2014 66 ° 4.6% Hoppy burnished gold with a hint of butterscotch.
  • P51 5.1% Christmas pudding combines with a dark roast character and a floral hint in the nose.
  • Kissingate Lower Beeding, W. Sussex est. 2010 Gardenia Mild 4.5% A refreshing amber mild with the subtle floral fragrances of an English country garden.
  • Mandarina Red 4.8% A red IPA with multiple flavour layers of malt and prominent citrus fruits. Riotous citrus bittersweet finish
  • Stout Extreme Jamaica 6.0% A fulsome bitter and slightly less sweet stout. Intense liquorice, coffee and molasses flavours with a hint of rum and raisin.
  • Lacons Great Yarmouth, Norfolk est. 2013 Audit 8.0% This strong dark copper barley wine has a prominent flavour of berry fruit, laced with pronounced spice. The finish is warming, smooth and sweet. A unique style of beer with 'hop wine' overtones.
  • Four Kisses 4.0% Golden amber with a fragrance of woody forest berries. Smooth biscuity malt flavours mature to a rounded nutty and lightly spiced end.
  • Liverpool Organic Liverpool, Merseyside est. 2009 Bier Head 4.1% Best bitter with hoppy foretaste, complex spice and crisp malt overtones.
  • Shipwreck IPA 6.5% Grapefruit, aniseed and peach notes feature in the hoppy bite that builds to tropical fruit and a generous, piney bitterness in the finish.
  • Loch Ness Drumnadrochit, Inverness est. 2011 HoppyNESS 5.0% Hugely hoppy beer with a little sweetness in the background. Made with Maris Otter pale Ale and malted wheat. Hopped with Admiral, Columbus, Citra and Willamette.
  • MadNESS 5.0% A fruity red beer with a huge US hop finish. Made with Maris Otter pale Ale, crystal, dark crystal and malted wheat. Hopped with Simcoe and Equinox.
  • Lord Conrad's Dry Drayton, Cambs est. 2010 Pheasant's Rise 5.5% Beechwood smoked malts warm the huntsman inside you and the thrice hopped finish will ruffle your feathers!
  • Spiffing Wheeze 3.9% Pale ale with crisp bite and mellow floral, peppery notes.
  • Zulu Dawn 3.5% Dark with red highlights. Citrus bitterness on a malty base.
  • Mile Tree Wisbech, Cambs est. 2012 Crescent Ale 3.9% Traditional English ale, chestnut brown in colour. A fruity malt taste balanced with bitterness from classic English hops.
  • Larksong 4.5% Clean, crisp amber ale, full-bodied aromatic flavour with a fruity hop aroma. Floral notes and a hint of toffee.
  • Milton Waterbeach, Cambs est. 1999 Cor Aurum 5.5% Powerfully hoppy beer, brewed with Maris Otter malt. Generous quantities of English, American and New Zealand hops are used in this infinitely improbable ale.
  • Justinian 3.9% Crisp pale gold-coloured bitter. Attractive bitter orange flavours persist into a satisfying lasting finish.
  • Marcus Aurelius de la Rosa 7.8% The acknowledged delights of Marcus Aurelius are further enhanced with the addition of Port from our friends at Quinta de la Rosa. Velvety, rich and powerful, this is a special release for Cambridge Beer Festival.
  • Orpheus 4.2% Full flavoured mild ale with rich chocolate and malt notes, hints of vanilla.
  • Pegasus 4.1% Fruit and some hops on the nose lead through into a fine balance of malt, fruit and hops on a bittersweet base. Malt is also present in the long, dry finish.
  • Moncada London est. 2011 Notting Hill Ruby Rye 5.2% A robust ruby ale made with rye complemented by a fruity hop aroma.
  • Notting Hill Summer 3.2% A refreshing pale ale with lots of New World hops which create citrus and tropical flavours.
  • Moonshine Fulbourn, Cambs est. 2004 1st Moon: American Pale Ale 5.6% Brewed on January's Full Moon. A hoppy American-style pale ale made using 3 malts combined with Columbus, Cascade, Citra, Pioneer, Challenger and Chinook hops.
  • 2nd Moon: Passion Fruit Pale Ale 4.3% Brewed on February's Full Moon. A light golden ale with added passion fruit which adds to the citrus flavour of Citra hops.
  • 3rd Moon: English Pale Ale 6.0% Brewed on March's Full Moon: English Style Pale Ale based on a recipe by William R Loftus, Edgware Road, London from 1857. Brewed in collaboration with Charles Roberts of Pickled Pig Cider.
  • 4th Moon: Premium Best Bitter 5.0% Brewed on April's Full Moon: A strong, mid-coloured best bitter with prominent hops. Dry hopped with Amarillo and Summer hops.
  • 5th Moon: Hill Farm Best Bitter 4.5% Brewed on May's full moon. Brewed using KWS Irina barley malt, which is grown on the farm where the brewery is based. Amber coloured best bitter with malt to the fore and a rounded hop finish.
  • Black Hole Stout 5.0% Full bodied stout with a complex malt profile. The roasted flavours are rich, smooth and long-lasting. Two times CAMRA gold medal winner.
  • Cambridge Best Bitter 4.2% Copper coloured, English best bitter; the malt and hop aromas carry through to the taste and the finish is rounded with a growing hop bitterness.
  • Cambridge Pale Ale 3.8% Pale coloured ale: a well balanced beer with a smooth malt profile that is complemented by a restrained hop flavour.
  • Heavenly Matter 4.1% A crisp, clean, straw coloured light bodied beer. Citra hops are prominent throughout, with a huge hoppy citrus, tropical fruit aroma and taste which leads to a generous bitterness in the finish.
  • Red Watch Blueberry Ale 4.2% A red-coloured beer, brewed with the addition of fresh blueberries. Light, fruity, refreshing and thirst quenching; the perfect beer for a warm sunny day.
  • Moor Bristol est. 1996 Return of the Empire 5.7% English IPA showcasing modern English hops. Unfined and naturally hazy.
  • TM 3.9% Traditional Mild, brown and malty.
  • Nene Valley Brewery Oundle, Northants est. 2011 Pulp Fiction 5.2% The hundreds of fresh whole grapefruits, paired with various additions of Cascade and Chinook hops make this an immensely refreshing saison. The peel from the grapefruit imparts an initial bitterness which gives way to juicy, citrus and slightly sharp finish.
  • Starless Stout 4.2% Smooth oat stout, refreshing dark grain flavours with a slight hop bite to finish.
  • Nethergate Pentlow, Essex est. 1986 Growler Bitter 3.9% Delicately smooth and well balanced; an amber coloured bitter, fruity and light on the palate, with a hint of earthy spice and a delicious hoppy finish.
  • Old Growler 5.0% A complex, satisfying porter, smooth and distinctive. Roast malt and fruit feature on the palate and the finish is powerfully hoppy.
  • Stour Valley Gold 4.2% Light fruity beer with apricot flavours.
  • Suffolk County 4.0% This well balanced bitter, with delightful malt and hop aromas, has a wonderfully bitter finish.
